“But those who have faith and work righteousness, they are Companions of the Garden: therein shall they abide forever.”
-Al-Baqarah 2:82

Most important actions for a Muslim:
Once the Prophet (peace be upon him) was asked: “Tell us, which action is dearest to Allah?’ He answered:’To say your prayer at its proper time.’ Again he was asked: ‘What comes next?’ Muhammed (pbuh) said: ‘To show kindness to parents.’ ‘Then what?’ he was asked, ‘To strive for the cause of Allah!’”
The worldly comforts are not for me. I am like a traveller, who takes a rest under a tree in the shade and then goes on his way.

1) Are you a convert or born muslim? How about your parents? I’m a revert, alhamdullilah. My parents are not Muslims. My mother is a non-denominational Christian and my father is a taoist. I’m half Bahamian, half Canadian. The Bahamian side is English and very WASPy, the Canadian side is Welsh and very ginger. It didn’t really affect my childhood, other than visiting the southern family a lot. In my eyes, I’m a human. My ethnicity or nationality isn’t really important. I loooove shawarma! So much yum! And I’ve never had an Arab rice dish that I didn’t like. Don’t really have any funny ones, the only ones I use day to day are “inshAllah”, “bismillah”, “mashAllah”, etc. Kindness, modesty (in both mind and body), iman, generosity, wit. And a beard, of course. I love that Islam makes everyone better, as long as they follow it properly. There’s nothing I dislike about Islam, the only thing I dislike is when people use Islam and use it to support what they do. Taking verses out of context, or finding the most obscure (and unauthentic) hadiths to support anti-semitism etc. is horrible. It hurts everyone. Nothing really. Don’t know how the Qur’an would be embarrassing or funny though. A few words here and there, not at all fluent though. Muhammad, Jesus, Adam, Enoch, Elijah, Elisha, Abraham, Isaac, Ishmael, Jacob, Joseph, Solomon, Lot, Zachariah, Moses, Job, Noah… and then my mind went blank
2) What’s your ethnicity and how did it relate to how you were raised?
3) Where are you from, and if not the Middle East, have you been there? For how long and why?
I was born just north of Toronto, Ontario. I’ve never been to the Middle East but inshAllah I hope to one day make hajj to Makkah.
4) What’s your favourite Arab/Middle Eastern dish?
5) What’s the most interesting or funny Islam/Arab related saying you use day to day?
6) What’s the most attractive and unattractive thing you find toward a Muslim or Arab man/woman?
7) Whats the thing you love most about Islam? What do you dislike the most?
8) What’s the most interesting/embarrassing/funny thing in your house that’s related to Islam or Arab culture, excluding the Quran?
9) Do you speak Arabic? If you do, then say something.
10) Name of all the Islamic Prophets you can remember at the top of your head. No Cheating!!
Part of the manuscripts found in the Great Mosque of Sana’a in Yemen. This is surat al-Isra 17: 20-23. It dates back to approximately 645AD, which was 10 years after the Qur’an was completed (between 610-632 AD), alhamdullilah.
“Each do we supply both these and those, from the bounty of thy Lord. And the bounty of thy Lord can never be walled up. See how we prefer one of them above another and verily the Hereafter will be greater in degrees and greater in preferment. Set not up with Allah any other god (O man) lest thou sit down reproved, forsaken. Thy Lord hath decreed, that ye worship none save Him, and (that ye show) kindness to parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age with thee, say not “Fie” unto them nor repulse them, but speak unto them a gracious word.”
